STARFISH
STORY
This story is dedicated to everyone who thinks that there’s nothing we can do about global warming.

A man was taking a walk along a beach. The previous day’s storm had abated and for now the water was relatively calm.
In the distance the man could see a young lad picking up and throwing into the waves what he assumed to be pebbles but as he drew closer he could see that he was mistaken and that the pebbles were in fact starfish. Thousands upon thousands of the creatures had been stranded by the storm and now they lay beached and helpless, vulnerable to the merciless attentions of hungry seabirds.
As the man approached, the lad continued picking up the starfish one by one and returning them to the relative safety of the waves.
“You’re wasting your time, boy” called the man as he passed. “There are too many of them. Nothing you can do will make a difference”
Undeterred, the boy stooped, picked up a starfish and hurled it into the water before turning and calling to the man,
“I made a difference to that one!”
The moral of this story is that no matter how enormous a task we might be faced with and how small and insignificant our efforts may seem in comparison, we should not be discouraged because everything we do for better or for worse, makes a difference.
